A man has been reportedly crushed to death by a Truck at Opa junction/Olokuta village, around a private polytechnic, on Ondo road in Akure.

The deceased who is popularly known as “Daddy Ese" plies furniture trade at the Plank market, Ajegboro, Agagu road, in Akure.

Eyewitnesses said the trailer was on high speed hence, could not avoid crushing the okada that bore the victim and the rider on Friday morning. While the passenger died, the okada rider was lucky to escape death.

The driver of the trailer however did not stop to offer help but it took the swift pursuit by other road users and the military men to nab the hit and run driver and get him to stop.

A popular media in Akure, in the course of its report of the incident observed that the wife of the deceased was seen crying at the scene.

Speaking with newsmen, the Chairman Okada Riders' Association, Adebowale junction branch, Akure, Mr Monday Desmond, appealed to government to expand the road as it had claimed lives of many road users.

Also speaking, the federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commander in Ondo State, Dr Samuel Ibitoye, charged road users to drive carefully, especially on narrow road as anyone caught violating road regulations would be made to face full wrath of the law.

You will recall that the Federal Government had recently approved and commenced dualisation of Akure-Ondo-Ore highway to curb incessant road crashes and loss of lives.
